Он охотно дает интервью о своей работе, делится планами на будущее, но очень не любит разговоры о себе и своем ближайшем окружении. May 2006 The Quattroporte looks like the kind of car meant for a rebel candidate at the papal elections, especially in black. It is sinful, has a lusty motor and makes noises that can liven up the most solemn of nights. Then there's the name- 'Maseyraaati'. Yup, you've got to pronounce it the way the Italians do and follow it up with 'Quatttrappooorte' for maximum effect. The latter literally means four doors. Can't imagine Tata naming one of their cars 'chaar darwaza', right? But the Italians, being such ardent automotive romantics, get away with one of the silliest names ever given to an automobile. However, the intent, execution and performance of the big Maser has nothing to do with being silly. It certainly is, from any angle, the world's most beautiful sedan. The Bentley Flying Spur can take credit for being the fastest, but then the Maserati has the kind of soul the Germans just cannot build into Bentleys. Which is why certain fine car enthusiasts (Vijay Mallya and Ajay Devgan are among them) have been quick to pick up the first couple of Masers to land in India. So, even if you reek of wealth, you'll have to wait a while for your Maserati. Power comes from a 4244 cc V8 (a version of the same motor now powers the F430, which makes this the most contemporary Ferrari-engineered V8 today) that spews out 400 bhp at 7000 rpm. The plot thickens when you know that it can produce 33 kgm of turning force at 4500 rpm. That translates to 216 bhp per ton and if you know how to play around with that six-speed paddle-shift gearbox (there's also a just-launched manual version), you can get to 100 kph in 5.2 seconds and 200 blurring kph comes up in 12.5 secs. It won't go to 300 kph on an autobahn but the Maserati will gladly hoist the speedo to 275 kph - the kind of speed at which you can even peep into your immediate future. Black hide with red piping in this car shocks the way a lipstick-laden nun would, but the Maser can carry it off without causing raised eyebrows. The driving position is classic Italian with an in-your-face steering wheel adorned by the famed trident of Bologna. Creature comforts abound and the car can rival almost any automobile on earth when it comes to safety features. Well, almost. So, a big engine in a large car is not impressive enough for you? Well, try and stay unmoved by the car's cornering prowess. A classic double wishbone suspension set-up on all four corners will make that drive back home through the mountains after a fierce round of illicit intimacy great fun. The ride on offer is crisp but comfortable enough for you to carefully tuck your shirt back, even on a patchy tarmac. Convinced? National Garage, Mumbai, can get you one for about Rs 70,00,000. Not really value for money, but if you wanted a VFM car, you wouldn't have read 500 words on a sexy Italian automobile, right?
